FOOTBALL Federation Australia (FFA) today confirmed that Melbourne Victory has been awarded the National Youth League Champions following the cancellation of their Round 18 match against Central Coast Mariners.
FOOTBALL Federation Australia (FFA) today confirmed that Melbourne Victory has been awarded the National Youth League Champions following the cancellation of their Round 18 match against Central Coast Mariners.
FFA-s decision to cancel the match was made following three postponements and consultation with both Melbourne Victory and Central Coast Mariners. The determination primarily took into account NYL player transition into state based competitions and reference to the FFA League Match Day Operations Manual.
The determination means the cancelled match has been recorded as a goalless draw with Melbourne Victory retaining top spot in the NYL due to their superior goal difference.
“While a decision of this nature is never easy, consultation with both clubs and reference to the regulations determined that there was no feasible option but to cancel this match,” said Head of A-League Damien de Bohun.
“We congratulate both Melbourne Victory and Central Coast Mariners on their success during the NYL 2012/13 season.”
While both sides finished the season equal on 37 points, Melbourne Victory-s goal difference of positive 37 compared to Central Coast-s positive 11 saw the Melbourne team retain top spot on the NYL ladder.
Central Coast Mariners wish to congratulate Melbourne Victory on winning the 2012/13 National Youth League.
