It’s the most important #F3Derby in recent times for both clubs and Paul Okon has named his extended squad set to face the Newcastle Jets this Sunday.
The headline addition for this week is the added experience of Club Captain, Nick Montgomery who comes straight back into the squad after a week’s suspension due to an accumulation of yellow cards. With over 400 professional games to his name and ample experience in derby football (Both #F3Derby & the infamous Sheffield Derby) ‘Monty’ will add much needed steel to the Mariners’ midfield.
Montgomery is raring to get back out onto the pitch at McDonald Jones Stadium on Sunday.
“This Sunday is a massive game for us,” Montgomery said. “After missing last week through suspension I am glad to be back and really looking forward to going down to Newcastle on Sunday and hopefully bringing home three points.
“I’ve had a bit of a sore ankle for the last few weeks so the suspension probably came at a good time. It’s never a good time to sit and watch from the stands but that games gone now and we’re preparing this week for a big #F3Derby.
“These young boys last season were babies and this season they’ve really come on and gained experienced. You can see the last few weeks their performances have shown maturity but I’m delighted to be back this week to lead the boys into a big #F3Derby,” Montgomery said.
Another exciting addition to Okon’s extended squad is Blake Powell who has been sidelined for the last three matches with a minor strain to his knee. This adds not only more attacking options at Okon’s disposal but also a selection headache in the midfield that will be named to face Newcastle.
