CENTRAL Coast Mariners National Youth League player Kieren Paull says the junior yellow and navy are expecting a tough contest in tomorrow-s Round 16 encounter with Perth Glory Youth in Tuggerah.

The seventh-placed Glory outfit will be looking to return to winning ways following a heavy 7-0 loss to Melbourne Victory Youth last Sunday.

“Perth aren-t doing too well at the moment but they gave us a good game last time we played them,” Paull said. “We only beat them by one goal (so) we-re not expecting them to be easy, they are going to be a tough opposition. We just hope we can break them down, score a few goals and not concede any ourselves.”

John McLafferty-s team will be looking to snatch all three points after suffering a 2-0 defeat to Brisbane Roar Youth last Saturday.

“It was difficult playing away in Brisbane, they are a good opposition. They keep the ball well and are good in attack but also strong in defence. I thought we played well in the second half, we couldn-t get the result but we made inroads and hopefully we can get the job done tomorrow,” he said.

The 20-year-old says the junior Mariners are well prepared for this weekend-s clash with the junior purple-whites.

“All of the boys are confident for this weekend. We have a home game, we are happy to be back at Tuggerah and hopefully we can put on a good performance in front of the supporters,” he said.

The promising youngster describes the final three matches of the campaign as must-wins for Central Coast Youth after Melbourne Victory Youth moved top of the National Youth League ladder on goal difference last weekend.

“Every game from here on in is a must-win. We can still win the title as long as we win all of our games. It-s really is in our own hands, so we need to get three points from every remaining fixtures.”

Central Coast Mariners Youth play their next match at home to Perth Glory Youth this Saturday 9 February at Centre of Excellence, Tuggerah. Kick-off is 10:30am and entry is FREE.
