NEWS: Mariners support White Ribbon

This Sunday the Central Coast Mariners are supporting White Ribbon. White Ribbon is Australia’s only national, male led campaign to end men’s violence against women and works to change attitudes and behaviours that lead to and perpetuate men’s violence against women by engaging and enabling boys and men to lead social change.

This weekend the Yellow & Navy are making a stand against domestic violence and at training on White Ribbon Day our players took the pledge: “I will stand up, speak out and act to prevent mens violence against women.”

During our match against the Western Sydney Wanderers at the weekend there will be a number of activations and promotional activities geared towards raising the awareness of White Ribbon Australia.

This includes 22 fathers on the pitch pre-game with their children, taking the pledge to stand up, speak out and act to prevent mens violence against women.

On average, fifty-two women in Australia will be killed by their partners each year. That’s one woman killed every week as a result of intimate partner violence.

Furthermore, one in three women experience physical and/or sexual violence perpetrated by a person known to them and 40% of women have experienced violence since the age of 15.

Domestic violence is an issue that affects everyone and the Central Coast Mariners aim to use sport as a tool in the fight against these shocking statistics.
