19-year-old Liam Rose has received top honours at 2016 #MarinersMedal with Roy O’Donovan & Nick Montgomery emerging as dual award winners at the Central Coast Mariners end of season awards night proudly sponsored by Brightfield.

Rose experienced a breakout season under Tony Walmsley that saw the young midfielder take home top gong from the Brightfield Mariners Medal Dinner at Terrigal Crowne Plaza on Friday night.

The Mariners Medal is the most prestigious individual award of the night that is decided on a 3-2-1 basis, selected by the players after each game across the Hyundai A-League season in which his peers have deemed Rose the best player through out the 2015/16 campaign.

After graduating from the Australian Institute of Sport, Rose signed with the Central Coast Mariners in 2013. ‘Junior’ made his Hyundai A-League debut as a substitute against Adelaide United in February 2015.

This season the Young Socceroo had an invaluable opportunity to work alongside UEFA Champions League winner Luis Garcia who assisted with the development of his attacking game.

O’Donovan finished the Hyundai A-League season with eight goals to secure the Mariners Golden Boot. Mariners’ fans will fondly remember the Irishman’s 83rd minute strike against Adelaide United, which was voted by the fans as the ‘Noel Spencer Goal of the Season’.

Skipper, Montgomery was the recipient of the ‘Men of Football Damien Brown Medal’, voted by the Central Coast Chapter as well as the Central Coast Mariners Official Supporter Club Player of the Year.

Central Coast Mariners Academy Captain Reece Papadimitrios took home the award for Foxtel National Youth League player of the year.

The #MarinersMedal is also about celebrating outstanding achievements off the field. Chris Crocker is one of our most passionate team members and took home the Volunteer of the year award.

Formerly known as the Chairman’s Award, The John Hutchinson Club Person of the Year is presented annually to one person involved with the Club who is deemed to have gone above and beyond for the benefit of the Club. This season, Sharon Baxter (Central Coast Mariners Football Business Manager) received the award after her tireless efforts during her 10th season involved with the Club.

Central Coast Mariners CEO Shaun Mielekamp also announced that Central Coast local Trent Buhagiar has signed a contract extension with the Central Coast Mariners.

Also on the night Central Coast Mariners Owner, Mike Charlesworth announced that Harry Redknapp is on board to assist Mariners’ recruitment to help unearth gems such as Mitch Austin and lure them to the Central Coast.

The former Tottenham Hotspur, Queens Park Rangers and West Ham United boss will work as a consultant to not only the Central Coast Mariners football department, but also connect the Yellow & Navy with his ties abroad.
