Mrdja commits to one more, with a detour

Foundation Central Coast Mariners striker Nik Mrdja has signed on for a further season in the Yellow and Navy, taking his contract through to the end of the Hyundai A-League 2010/11 season.

Foundation Central Coast Mariners striker Nik Mrdja has signed on for a further season in the Yellow and Navy, taking his contract through to the end of the Hyundai A-League 2010/11 season.

As part of the deal, the former Qantas Socceroo will link up with Melbourne Victory for the final two matches of the Hyundai A-League 2009/10 regular season, finals series, and the group stage and round of 16 of the AFC Asian Champions League.

“Nik has been in some terrific form for us over the past few rounds, and heading to Melbourne will help him gain valuable match fitness over the coming months, before he returns to us to begin the new campaign,” said Mariners- Executive Chairman Lyall Gorman.

Mrdja has played 17 matches so far this season, scoring six goals, and will be eligible to line up for the Victory in tonight-s home match against North Queensland Fury.

“I have been really happy with the way I have playing, but as a footballer you always want to be at the top of your game, and getting regular game time over the next few months will help me get to where I want to be.

“The last Asian Champions League campaign was a great experience and I can-t wait to be a part of it again, while at the same time, I-m keen to continue what I have started here at the Mariners,” said Mrdja.

In Mrdja-s absence, the club has moved to sign local junior Brady Smith in time for tomorrow-s F3 derby against Newcastle, and is in line to make his Hyundai A-League debut in jersey number 24 in the remaining two matches of the current season.

The Mariners- final home match of the Hyundai A-League 2009/10 season will be against Newcastle Jets on Saturday, 6 February. Kick-off is at 6:00pm. Tickets are available online here or by phoning 132 849.
