CENTRAL Coast Mariners today welcome Football Federation Australia-s decision to appoint former Mariners Chairman Lyall Gorman as Western Sydney-s inaugural Executive Chairman.

Gorman was an instrumental figure in the foundation of the Mariners in 2004, with the yellow and navy enjoying a successful period with the former Head of Hyundai A-League at the helm.

Current Central Coast Chairman, Mr Peter Turnbull, said Gorman-s sound track record and business nous would serve Western Sydney well as the Club seeks to establish its on and off field identity.

“I can honestly think of few better people for the job,” Turnbull said.

“Lyall has an outstanding ability to develop new businesses and we believe many of the principles he helped instil in the culture of the Mariners he will look to implement in the new Western Sydney franchise.”

“Lyall understands the need for Clubs to engage their community at a grassroots level, and knowing full well his intention to implement this approach with Western Sydney, we have no doubt their Club is in good hands.”

“As a Club we look forward to welcoming Lyall Gorman, Tony Popovic, as well as Western Sydney-s players and fans to Bluetongue Stadium in season eight of the Hyundai A-League,” Turnbull concluded.
