Central Coast Mariners Youth Development Co-ordinator Damien Brown was joined by squad members Greg Owens, Andrew Redmayne and Matt Simon at Gosford High School on Monday to help spread the Arrive alive youth road safety message.

The visit was part of the Arrive alive ‘What makes a good driver?’ program initiative developed by the Motor Accidents Authority.

The Mariners believe this partnership with Arrive alive is a great community service with the potential to save lives by asking young drivers to think twice before taking risks on the road.

Young people, particularly young men aged between 17 and 25 are more than twice as likely to be killed or injured on NSW roads.

The Arrive alive sponsorship of the Mariners recognises that elite sports people can be valuable ambassadors for Arrive alive because the majority of them fall into this age group and can talk to them as peers.

Too often, stories emerge about promising young lives cut short by a car crash – crashes in which they or their friends were drivers.

The Mariners want young drivers to understand the importance of practice in gaining driving experience as a learner driver as being crucial to them staying safer on their provisional licence and achieving their goals in life.

The ‘What makes a good driver?’ program will see Mariners players and an Arrive alive facilitator visit many other schools throughout the Central Coast during the season.
