In our Hyundai A-League countdown series, we look at the men who make up the Central Coast Mariners squad… from player number 23, down to player number 1. Today, we focus on skipper Alex Wilkinson.

18. Alex Wilkinson

Mariners captain Alex Wilkinson has been one of the cornerstone figures of the clubs’ success since day one.

Often talked about in Qantas Socceroos circles, Wilkinson has proven himself to be one of the most disciplined and reliable defenders in the Hyundai A-League over the past six years.

Holding the record for the most competitive appearances by a Mariners player, Wilkinson represented Australia prolifically at youth level. And, at just 26, the smart centre-back still has plenty of time left to add to his tremendous reputation with his beloved Central Coast Mariners, and perhaps the Qantas Socceroos.

Following the Yellow and Navy-s 2010/11 Hyundai A-League campaign, Wilkinson spent a four-month period on loan with Chinese Super League side, Jiangsu Sainty.
