NEW recruit Brent Griffiths will wear the number 13 on his jersey for the Central Coast Mariners this campaign.

Griffiths is the younger brother of former Mariners star Rostyn Griffiths, who transferred to Chinese Super League giants Guangzhou R&F in the middle of last season.

The Mariners signed Griffiths from Victorian Premier League side Heidelberg United.

However, Griffiths is no stranger to Australia-s top flight, having played for Hyundai A-League outfits Perth Glory and Wellington Phoenix over past seasons.

Griffiths is enjoying his time at his new Club, including the professionalism shown by Central Coast on and off the field.

“The way that Graham Arnold runs things is different to any other coach I have had,” Griffiths said.

“In general I feel like I have to be concentrating 100 per cent of the time and there is a high standard at the Club due to previous seasons.”

Griffiths said he has found it easy to transition into life on the Central Coast because he has found the new coaching staff, players and everyone around the Club to be extremely friendly.

“They knew my brother and I guess he did quite well in the team so the lads have taken to me quite well.”

Griffiths is not only excited for the start of the season but he is also keen to continue his development under Coach Graham Arnold.

He believes paying close attention to Patrick Zwaanswijk who plays in the same position will further his improvement as a central defender.

“I would really like to become a better centre half and as the season progresses it would be great to get a couple of starts and integrate myself into the squad,” he said.
