The Central Coast Mariners have been comprehensively outplayed in their National Youth League (NYL), Round 7 clash against Adelaide United at Bluetongue Stadium this evening, with the visiting Reds thumping the home side 6-1.

Adelaide-s Hyundai A-League experienced pair Robert Younis and Kristian Sarkies each netted a brace, with Michael Doyle and Shane Tobias completing the scoring for the visitors before local product Brady Smith slotted a late consolation for the Mariners.

For the Mariners, there were starts for Hyundai A-League foursome Andre Gumprecht, Andrea Merenda, Andrew Redmayne and Chris Tadrosse, and while each showcased encouraging form, they were ultimately unable to prevent a heavy loss for the home side against an impressive opponent.

“It-s disappointing because we just weren-t winning the one on one battles across the park – we have played well in patches, but, at this time, we haven-t been able to sustain it for the full ninety minutes,” said Mariners Youth Development Co-ordinator Damien Brown after the match.

“After a result like this, all that you can do is try to find the positives, reflect on the experience and try to learn from it, which we have the ability to do.”

The Mariners- National Youth League (NYL) campaign continues on Wednesday, 19 November, when the yellow and navy travel to the Queensland capital to face the Queensland Roar at Ballymore Stadium. Kick off is at 5pm AEDT.

The Mariners NYL season returns to the Central Coast on Saturday, 7 December, when the Mariners host the Queensland Roar at Lisarow-s Pluim Park. Kick off is at 4pm.
