Central Coast goalkeeper Andrew Redmayne has helped Mariners’ sister club Sheffield United to a 4-3 victory against the world’s oldest club, Sheffield FC.

Redmayne is visiting Bramall Lane as part of the close ties between the two clubs to gain valuable experience from the English powerhouse club, and got a chance to showcase his wares in a pre-season trial against Sheffield FC.

The 20-year-old was introduced on 66 minutes at Dronfield, his first task to pick the ball out of the back of the net as the amateur side converted from the penalty spot, their second of the evening, to level at 3-all.

United then scored what proved to be the winner in the 78th minute, and Redmayne had the chance to show his skills with a good save late on to save the Blades blushes.

Redmayne will leave Yorkshire later in the week to fly out to South America, where he’ll link up with the Qantas Australian Under 20’s squad for a training camp, as they prepare for September’s Under 20’s World Cup in Egypt.

National Youth League goalkeeper Matt Ryan will be Danny Vukovic’s understudy for this Saturday’s trial against Hyundai A-League newcomer Gold Coast United at Skilled Park.

Tickets are limited to 5,000 and are $30 for Adults, $17 for children. For more details go to www.goldcoastunited.com.au
