A TEN-MAN Central Coast Mariners Youth outfit was defeated 3-0 by Melbourne Heart Youth in Tuggerah on Saturday.
A double by Heart captain Joshua Groenwald combined with Stefan Mauk-s first half opener ensured Joe Palatsides- side secured all three NYL points at the Central Coast Mariners Centre of Excellence.
Mariners Youth had Adam Kwasnik dismissed for dissent in the 34th minute and before that moment looked the more likely side to break the deadlock.
Indeed, both Patrick Dixon and Tommy Cirjak were causing issues for the Heart defence. Former Mariners custodian Andrew Redmayne was busy between the sticks, pulling off a number of good saves from the nimble duo.
But Heart took full advantage of their numerical advantage just before half-time, with impressive attacking midfielder Mauk firing home a sweet shot from just inside the area.
Heart skipper Groenwald was central to much of his side-s best play and in the second stanza netted a classy brace.
Groenwald-s first was a ferocious finish from inside the area an hour in, while his second and Heart-s third was a powerful drive from a set piece from all of 25-yards.
Central Coast Mariners Youth play their next match on Saturday 22 December away to the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra.
