NEWS: Mariners in PINK vs. ‘Nix

Central Coast Mariners will swap their usual yellow and navy get-ups for bright pink kits for Saturday’s match against the ‘Nix in order to make a vibrant and visual statement in support of women’s cancer research, prevention and support services, plus Pink Ribbon Day – an annual initiative organised by Australia’s Cancer Council.

With the backing of Brightfield Integrated Facilities Management, the Mariners are back in pink for a third season, and are looking to build on the $40,000 raised by the Club over the past two years (in previous association with Mingara) for the Cancer Council.

Every penny donated via the post-match signed jersey auction online, the ten bucks Brightfield are chipping in from every pink jersey sold at the game, plus any other donations made by fans, will stay directly in the Central Coast community. Indeed, the cash will be spent to assist with the $60,000 upgrade of the Erina Community Health Centre, in order to turn it into a one-stop information location for those affected by women’s cancers.

Club representatives Adam Kwasnik and Carly Carmichael visited Gosford Hospital during the week to pass around some pink roses to some inspirational women currently fighting cancer. In the Central Coast region, it is predicted that, by 2016, 328 people will be diagnosed with breast or gynaecological cancer in a single year, with 67 deaths expected.

Sarah Russell, Cancer Council NSW Community Engagement Manager – Hunter & Central Coast, said: “Cancer Council NSW is an independent cancer charity that receives no government funding, so we are truly blessed to have a partnership with the Mariners – we can’t thank them enough for their support.”
