Goalkeeping recruit, Ivan Necevski has completed his first week of pre-season with the Central Coast Mariners and we caught up with him at the Centre of Excellence to find out how he’s settling in.
Necevski arrives on the Central Coast from Sydney FC with a wealth of experience in the Hyundai A-League and hopes that he can act as a mentor both on and off the pitch for his younger teammates.
“My first week has been great and I am looking forward to my new challenge,” Necevski said. “There’s a great bunch of boys here so I’m sure we will be able to work together and be successful.
“I’ve known Nashy for a long time, we played state league against each other over 10 years ago as well as his spell at Sydney FC as a player so I am really looking forward to working with him.
“I wasn’t originally looking to keep playing in the A-League but when Nashy mentioned that the Club was looking for some experience and leadership and what the club proposed was very interesting and exciting so I see this as a great challenge for me.
“I’m still young in keeper’s terms, I think I can bring a lot of leadership and experience to the side. I’ve been playing in the A-League for the past 10 years and the young goalkeepers here are at a great standard so I’ll need to keep up with them.
“I think healthy competition is accepted all over the field, there’s going to be players that are competing against each other for one position over the weekend so that competition will bring the best out in everyone.
“What happened here last season was unfortunate, the Mariners have always been one of the most successful clubs in the A-League and that’s the level we want to be at.
Connor Pain, Mickael Tavares & Jacques Faty will report to Central Coast Mariners’ pre-season next week to commence their preparations for Hyundai A-League season 12.
