Central Coast Mariners goalkeeper Mathew Ryan has tonight been named Football Federation Australia’s Under 20 Footballer of the Year.

Central Coast Mariners goalkeeper Mathew Ryan has tonight been named Football Federation Australia’s Under 20 Footballer of the Year.

The 19-year-old was presented with the award in front of a gathering of some of the biggest names in the Australian football fraternity at the Australian Football Awards night held at the Sheraton on the Park Hotel, Sydney.

Ryan enjoyed a stunning debut season between the sticks for the Yellow and Navy, amassing an astonishing 14 clean sheets from 31 competitive appearances.

The calm, confident and commanding shot-stopper produced a string of dazzling displays throughout his first campaign in Australia-s top flight, with his performances throughout the season earning him the Hyundai A-League-s NAB Young Footballer of the Year Award.

Additionally, Ryan was feted with the Joe Marston Medal for Best on Ground in the Hyundai A-League 2010/11 Grand Final.

A custodian of real quality, Ryan received the accolade from current Qantas Socceroos Captain, Lucas Neill.
