Mariners women search for consistency

The Central Coast Mariners- Westfield W-League team returns to Parramatta Stadium on Saturday to face Canberra United full of confidence following their recent annihilation of Adelaide United.

The Mariners were near faultless against the Reds at Hindmarsh Stadium – producing six goals over ninety dominant minutes that reinvigorated the Mariners- charge towards a Finals Series berth.

“Our performance against Adelaide United was very pleasing, we-ve been great for large parts of our matches though have failed to score goals and win matches,” said Mariners Westfield W-League Head Coach Stephen Roche.

“We struggled when we went to Melbourne earlier on in the season, we flew into Melbourne on the morning of the match and were very sluggish that day.

“This time we were better prepared mentally as we had that experience to draw upon, and the positive attitude of the team proved successful.”

One point outside the top four and set to face an opponent that they have already defeated this campaign, the stakes could barely be higher for the Mariners women on Saturday night, given there are only three regular season rounds remaining.

“The win on Saturday was great because we stuck to our game plan, got the goals and we played well for the duration of the match, without conceding and losing concentration,” said Roche.

“We-ve played Canberra already this season and we got a win there, though it was not at all an easy match; we-ll be in for a physical battle against them that-s for sure.”

The Mariners- Westfield W-League campaign continues against Canberra United at Parramatta Stadium on Saturday, 13 December. Kick off is at 6pm and admission to the match is free.
