The Central Coast Mariners today confirmed the seventeen squad members that will spearhead the club’s second Westfield W-League campaign in 2009, which will see the Mariners tackle rivals Sydney FC on Monday 5th October at the Sydney Football Stadium in its opening fixture.

Head Coach Stephen Roche is back in the hot seat once more after a credible first year with the Mariners, has assembled a competitive squad that will expand upon the Mariners brand beyond the boundaries of Central Coast by showcasing some of the country-s finest women-s footballers over the course of Australia-s exciting top-flight football competition.

The Mariners- home matches for season 2009 have been split with Bluetongue Stadium being the venue for three matches while Canberra Stadium and Leichhardt Oval will also play host to matches against rival W-League outfits.

The Mariners team, which is funded and operated by Football NSW, will again be involved in the ten-round campaign and Finals Series, which will conclude in mid-December 2009.

Headlining the Mariners- line up will be hopeful Westfield Matildas star Renee Rollason. The promising 19-year-old midfielder was seen as one of the Central Coast-s most outstanding players in their inaugural season in the W-League and 2009 could be the year Rollason steps it up a further notch.

Exciting 19-year-old defender Jessica Seaman has been earmarked as a player to watch out for from the young guns as well as 15-year-old striking sensation Caitlin Foord who was snapped up from the NSW Institute of Sport.

The Mariners management also struck up a neat deal after they also secured the signings of the Illawarra Stingrays front pairing of Ashleigh Connor and Michelle Heyman. The dynamic duo have been in scintillating form during this season-s Arrive alive Women-s Premier League competition.

The squad has been busily preparing itself for what will be a huge season for the club with coach Stephen Roche indicating that bigger things will be seen in 2009 from the Central Coast Mariners.

“I can tell you that all the girls have worked extremely hard in the off-season preparing for the start of the 2009 W-League competition.

“There is a good feel at the club amongst all the members and officials in the squad.

“A number of the girls have experienced W-League football and I know this will assist with our team preparations when we kick off against Sydney FC.

“Players such as Kelly Golebiowski for example, who has an enormous amount of experience behind her, will certainly help out the younger players in the squad.

“Overall all the girls are really looking forward to 2009,” ended Roche.
