Ellie Brush, Hayley Crawford and Caitlin Munoz each found the back of the next for the visitors to secure a result that is not detrimental to the Mariners- chances of Final Series qualification, but one that certainly presents the yellow and navy with a significant hurdle to overcome.
Following on from last Saturday-s impressive 6-0 triumph away to Adelaide United, expectations were high in the Mariners camp and the comprehensive loss that would ultimately follow was certainly unexpected.
“All credit to Canberra, they played a strong match by dominating in midfield, that is where they won it tonight,” said Mariners Westfield W-League Head Coach Stephen Roche after the match.
“We are still in the running for a Finals Series spot, so we will be training hard this week and we will be ready to face Queensland Roar next Saturday.”
The Mariners- Westfield W-League campaign continues against the Queensland Roar at Ballymore Stadium on Saturday, 20 December. Kick off is at 6pm AEDT.
