The Central Coast Mariners are excited to announce the signing of exciting young defender Ruon Tongyik on a two year deal.

The 22 year old joins the Mariners after finishing the 2018/19 Hyundai A-League season with Brisbane Roar. Having previously plied his trade with Adelaide United, Melbourne City and Western Sydney Wanderers, Tongyik is looking to establish himself in the side and enjoy a long and successful career on the coast.

“I am delighted to be joining the Central Coast Mariners for the next two seasons. The Mariners have a proud history in the Hyundai A-League, and I’m looking forward to helping the club get back on top next season.

“I can’t wait to get working with Alen Stajcic as a boss. He has an excellent coaching record and reputation, and I truly believe I can develop as a player under him”.

Born in Sudan, Tongyik arrived in Australia in 2003 and played a part of Adelaide United’s youth system, involved in their NPL promotion and National Youth League Conference A Premiership. He has also three appearances under his belt in the Under 23 Australian national squad.

Head Coach Alen Stajcic is looking forward to the young defender to join his side.

“It’s really exciting to bring a young player like Ruon to the club.” Stajcic said.

“Over the past few years he has showed amazing potential to be a fantastic footballer and has a real drive to succeed. I’ve been watching him for a while, and I’m sure he will be a great contributor to our team on and off the field”.
