Mariners Academy: Seniors at home on Sunday afternoon

The Mariners Academy senior teams are back at home at Pluim Park on Sunday, and both coaches are hoping to see strong support as their teams look to continue early season form lines.

For Nick Montgomery, his side will be hoping to reclaim top spot after Spirit and St. George surged ahead on the back of Saturday results, and said this week the Grand Final rematch against Northern Tigers is just another game for his side.

“Tigers are a good team and have a good young  coach who likes to play attacking football,” he said.

“[I] don’t see it as a GF rematch, as it’s just another 3 points on the line, the same as each week.”

“We are really happy to be back at Pluim after a long time on the road. Pluim is our home and we like playing there as it’s a great natural surface and the support we get from the fans is superb.”

Dan Barrett and his NPLW group picked up their first win of the season last week and will be looking for back to back victories when they host Nepean FC, who recorded a big win over UNSW last weekend.

“I was delighted by the win,” Barrett said.

“Don’t be fooled by the loss to Northbridge, the girls were not too far away either in that match but to get the win against solid opposition was just reward for the hard work that’s been going into training.”

“Our back four and goalkeeper were very solid and we scored some excellent goals as well. Overall it was a solid team effort from all with all players completing their jobs and putting in maximum effort.”

“We are really looking forward to being out on Pluim Park again. It’s always important and exciting to be back in-front of our family and friends and we’re excited for Sunday after the first two rounds away from home.”
