Mariners Academy: 1st Grade and 20's remain undefeated

Damian Tsekenis continued his red hot early season scoring form with another brace against SD Raiders on Sunday as the Mariners NPL2 First Grade Men’s side drew 2-2, while U/20’s went a third game without conceding in a 3-0 victory.

First grade got off to a slow start and SD Raiders hit the front just three minutes in, but Tsekenis

grabbed his first at the 25 minute mark as he was sent through on goal to finish easily, only for the

Mariners to fall behind again three minutes later.

With 14 minutes though they levelled proceedings, Tsekenis harrying and pressuring a defender near

the backline to force a turnover of possession before he fired home from a tight angle.

The Mariners pushed in the late stages and had an effort hit the crossbar and another cleared off the

line, however it was not to be as Raiders held on for a point.

Up next is a top of the table clash this weekend against NWS Spirit at Christie Park, while our

Women’s side will kick off their campaign on Easter Monday against Northbridge Bulls.
