Hyundai A-League | Mariners Matchday 7 Preview

Alen Stajcic and the Mariners will be seeking back to back wins on Saturday afternoon when they take on Brisbane Roar at Suncorp Stadium in round eight of the Hyundai A-League.

Sunday’s win over Western United lifted the Mariners back into the top six and they can push on and grab momentum heading into the bye round with a win here.

For just the second time this season there have been no omissions from the previous matchday squad, with Stajcic close to having a fully fit squad at his disposal.

Forward Jair will not travel to Brisbane, instead receiving time to return to full fitness before the Mariners next match against Sydney FC in Round 10.

They will face a stern test against a Roar side who although they lost to Wellington last weekend, became the first side to beat Melbourne City the week before in a come from behind victory.

Speaking ahead of the round, Stajcic emphasised the danger posed by the Roar, particularly as they come off the back of a loss.

“Brisbane for me are very unlucky this year, they’ve played a lot of good matches and had good moments in those matches,” he said.

“They’ve probably missed too many chances for their liking, but they’ve probably been one of the top three or four teams in the league in terms of how they have played.”

Stajcic praised the impact of Eunsun Kim who made his first Hyundai A-League start last weekend against Western, and said he’ll be hoping to see a similar impact this weekend.

“Kim was good,” Stajcic said.

“[It was] his first start for us and he maybe fatigued a little bit around the 60 minute mark, so if we can get that again it will certainly help the team.

“He has a lot of experience and organisation, I think him and Ziggy helped in times where we needed some experience and guidance across the field, and those two were certainly key parts of that.
