In our Hyundai A-League countdown series, we look at the men who make up the Central Coast Mariners squad… from player number 23, down to player number 1. Today, we focus on Trent Sainsbury.

16. Trent Sainsbury

Originally from Perth, Western Australia, 19-year-old Trent Sainsbury played in the Glory-s inaugural National Youth League campaign before joining the Australian Institute of Sport program.

Establishing himself as an imposing central defender, Sainsbury joined the Mariners on a first team deal prior to the 2010/11 campaign, making 10 appearances throughout the season.

A member of the Qantas Young Socceroos, Sainsbury was included in Australia-s squad for the 2011 FIFA U20 World Cup in Colombia.

Having made his debut in an intense F3 derby match against Newcastle Jets in 2010, Sainsbury understands high stakes football and will be keen to push the likes of Patrick Zwaanswijk and Alex Wilkinson for a place in the Mariners defence this season.
