Head Coach Tony Walmsley was proudly involved in the 110th birthday celebrations of Australia’s oldest Man, Alf Date who lives at Peninsula Village on the Central Coast.

Walmsley was also lucky enough to meet Australian football royalty, Joe Marston who was the first Australian to play in an FA Cup final and shares the same residency as Mr Date. Hyundai A-Leauge fans will also recognise Joe’s name as the medal named after him which recognises the best player of the Grand Final.

‘Alfie Date’ turned 110 yesterday and the Mariners’ were lucky enough to be involved with his belated birthday celebrations where his incredible achievement was recognised by the attendance of Sir Peter John Cosgrove, Governor-General of Australia.

During a day that was all about Alf, he was also surprised with personal birthday cards from Her Majesty The Queen and Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull.

A Tottenham Hotspur fan through and through, Alfie was over the moon to receive a Central Coast Mariners kit from Head Coach Tony Walmsley.

Upon the presentation, Walmsley welcomed Alfie to the team and said that there are always exceptions to the club’s mantra of “giving youth a chance,” which brought a huge smile to the face of the 110 year old.
