Mayor and Mariners Director, Bob Graham, has called on Wyong Shire residents to support the Central Coast Mariners as they bid to make their fourth Hyundai A-League Grand Final.

On Sunday afternoon the Mariners play the return leg of the major semi-final against Brisbane Roar, who defeated them 2-0 last Saturday.

However, the Mariners are counting on a huge home crowd at Bluetongue Stadium this weekend to help lift them to another A-League decider.

“The Mariners are the only Central Coast team in a national sporting competition and their achievements this year in finishing the minor rounds in first place and winning the Premier-s Plate have been outstanding,” Mayor Graham said.

“Although they play at Bluetongue (Stadium) in Gosford, the Mariners are actually based in our area at Tuggerah so the Shire has played an important part in the club-s success.

“I know there-s nothing like a parochial home crowd to lift a team to great heights and I-d love for as many fans to make their way to Bluetongue this weekend and help push the boys into another Grand Final.”

At last week-s Council meeting, Wyong Shire Councillors resolved to formally recognise the Mariners- feat in winning the Premier’s Plate.

They also decided to hold appropriate celebrations to recognise this achievement, and explore the possibility of a public screening should the Mariners make the Grand Final.

If the Mariners are successful in this year-s decider, Council also resolved to seek support from other sponsors and Gosford City Council to host a regional celebration and ensure that that celebration is held in Wyong Shire.

Wyong Shire Council has been a proud sponsor of the Mariners during this Hyundai A-League season.
