Golec: No-one will get in our way

Central Coast Mariners defender, Antony Golec says that the Mariners are full of confidence heading into Sunday’s round three encounter with Perth Glory. Kick-off is Sunday at 7pm (AEDT).

Ahead of a tough road trip to Western Australia, Golec spoke to media about returning to the club where he made six appearances before continuing his career in Europe in January 2016.

“It always is a homecoming when you’re playing an ex-club,” Golec said. “I’ve got nothing to prove to anyone, so I’m going to go out and do what I do best & what’s best for the team.

“But I’m going there for business and that’s to get the three points, that’s all that matters. Kenny’s a good coach, he’s got a lot of experience, he knows what he wants. Perth are a good side, they’re hard to beat.

“He’s got some quality players in there so they will be tough to beat. But we’ve got a lot of quality players as well so it’s going to come down to us turning up and doing what we have to do and know we can do,” Golec said.

After a 2-2 draw with the Western Sydney Wanderers on Saturday, Golec said that confidence in the squad is high and when the game plan is executed, they can beat anyone.

“Against the Wanderers we did really well,” Golec said. “We played to our strengths, we limited our weaknesses, so we’re looking forward to this round now. Perth are a good team, there’s no easy game in the A-League,” Golec said.

“For us we have to stick to what we’re good at and hopefully it comes off and we can run away with the three points.

“When we have a chance to go forward we go forward with the ball and we do it really well. We link up well with each other, we have good chemistry and it’s only getting stronger from here.

“We just have to continue doing that and if we do that against Perth we know we can get that three points. This week I think we’ll definitely do that. We want to be in the top six and we can do it. We have the belief for it and no one’s going to get in our way.

“We’re a strong team, so if we play to our strengths we will be unstoppable,” Golec said.
