Foxtel Y-League | Mariners Matchday 3 Preview

Our Foxtel Y-League squad will look to continue their undefeated start to the season when they visit Western Sydney Wanderers on Sunday morning at Marconi Stadium.

A 3-3 draw with Sydney FC last week followed up a 3-1 win against Canberra United in the opening round, but Nick Montgomery’s side will have their work cut out for them against the reigning champions.

The Wanderers sit just a point behind the Mariners, who are equal top on points with Sydney FC but behind the ladder leaders in their Conference only on goal difference.

Both sides are likely to be boosted by the inclusion of Hyundai A-League squad players, with both first teams due to play the evening prior and Montgomery said it will result in a very competitive match.

“We will be fine personnel wise from last weekend, and depending on who comes in from the A-League squad we should have a very competitive squad to pick from,” he said.

“Last week they [Wanderers] had some A-League boys playing, and they’re playing on Saturday night too so they’ll likely have some first team players in the squad, it will be a very competitive game.”

Montgomery’s squad pushed Sydney all the way last weekend and were unlucky to not be awarded another penalty and a chance to win the game, and Monty said the group is in a position of strength as players battle for positions.

“We’ve got a lot ofcompetition for places, we’ve got boys that don’t deserve to be left out,” he said.

“We can only have three outfield substitutes which is a shame, because there’s a lot of talented guys that really should be involved.”

Kick-off at Marconi Stadium is at 10:30am on Sunday morning, and there will be updates via the @CCMariners Twitter account.
