WITH just 29 days to go, we continue our countdown towards our first Hyundai A-League game of the 2012/13 season – a much-anticipated clash with Western Sydney Wanderers at Parramatta Stadium. What relevance does the number 29 have for Mariners fans?

Michael McGlinchey

ATTACKING raids down the flanks have proven to be a fruitful outlet to goal for the Central Coast Mariners over past seasons.

Last campaign, Pedj Bojic and Michael McGlinchey both completed 29 crosses into the opposition-s penalty area.

Bojic and McGlinchey-s work down the right side contributed to many Mariners goals. Indeed, the duo combined for 14 assists throughout the season.

There were only three players in the competition who delivered more balls into the box last season. Wellington Phoenix-s Leo Bertos (37) led the Hyundai A-League in this department, followed by Brisbane Roar-s Ivan Franjic (33) and Sydney FC-s marquee man Brett Emerton (31).

Percentage wise, however, All Whites midfielder McGlinchey blitzed his rivals, proving the most effective crosser in the competition.

Will McGlinchey and Bojic prove as potent this campaign? Having watched them in training this pre-season, we at ccmariners.com.au wouldn-t bet against it!
