BERNIE Howitt is Member number 18 of the Central Coast Mariners. Mr Howitt has shown his loyalty to the Club since the foundation of the yellow and navy eight years ago. He has travelled all along the east coast and as far west as Adelaide to support the team during the regular season and Hyundai A-League finals series.
Here-s what Mr Howitt had to say when asked about being a Mariners Member!
What do you get out of being a Mariners Member?
One of the things I like is the strong sense of community – you feel you are sharing experiences with people. It really matters to me to be there each game and I really like the certainty of having a ticket for the entire season.
What has been a key highlight in your time as a Mariners Member?
Probably the most recent one was when we finally won an Asian Champions league game against Tianjin Teda.
Do you travel to watch the team throughout NSW, interstate or perhaps even overseas?
I haven-t been overseas but we went to Adelaide for the finals in the first season. We have also been to Brisbane, Newcastle and Sydney. We virtually travel all up and down the east coast and a have been as far across as Adelaide.
What are your expectations for the 2012/13 season?
I hope that we continue to build and I would love to see us succeed in Asia. I love the fact that Graham Arnold is bringing young players on and I know that every time a Mariners team takes the field they are going to give 100 per cent. We will be proud to support them.
What would you say to people thinking about becoming a Mariners Member?
You would be mad if you didn-t become a Member because you receive such a strong sense of community. Football is a shared language and it is a shared sense of something very special, it is something I think the Central Coast really needs. I think the Mariners play a crucial role creating a sense of community on the Central Coast and if you are a Member you feel very much a part of this region.
