Countdown :: 14 days to go!

WITH just 14 days to go, we continue our countdown towards our first Hyundai A-League game of the 2012/2013 season – a much-anticipated clash with Western Sydney Wanderers at Parramatta Stadium.

THE round 10 clash between North Queensland Fury and the Mariners in the 2009/10 domestic season took only 14 seconds to feature the first goal.

Matthew Simon raced onto the ball and netted the fastest goal in club history, sliding the ball past Fury custodian Paul Henderson.
Simon was transferred midway through last season from the Mariners to K-League outfit Chunnam Dragons.

The marksman began his Mariners career in 2006, and left the yellow and navy having tucked away 36 goals in 114 Hyundai A-League appearances.

Fittingly, the pacey, determined striker scored a brace in his final game for the club, earning the Mariners a 2-0 win over Melbourne Victory in front of 12,284 vociferous supporters at Central Coast Stadium.

On that night, current Mariners attacker Daniel McBreen helped Simon celebrate his double as the crowd roared.

Interestingly, McBreen scored the equaliser for Fury after Simon-s early effort on October 11 2009 in the 75th minute of play.
