Central Coast Mariners Captain, Alan Baro says that his side have prepared perfectly during pre-season and are ready to do battle with the Newcastle Jets at Central Coast Stadium this Saturday. Kick-off is 5:35pm.

After the team’s training session on Thursday, Baro spoke with media and assured Mariners fans that a tough pre-season has prepared the Yellow & Navy outfit for a season-opening #F3Derby blockbuster.

Arriving for day one of pre-season, the recently appointed skipper has embraced his leadership role with the Mariners and can’t wait to lead his team out on Saturday evening against the club’s fierce rivals.

“We have built a really good team here on the Central Coast,” Baro said. “We have really worked hard during pre-season and I know the team is ready to go on Saturday – we are prepared and excited for the game.

“The hard-work we’ve put into the team shape over the last three months now means that everything is ready. The focus on the back end of the week is about preparing for round one and taking a look at our opposition.

After being named Club Captain at the Mariners Family Day, the experienced centre-back says that it will not distract him from doing his job in the heart of the Coast’s defence.

“I feel like another player in the team who wants to do his best job,” Baro said. “Hopefully we can all work together to put in a performance that our fans are proud of. I will do everything I can as a captain to help my teammates,” Baro said.

Spanish striker Asdrubal will be crucial to the Mariners attack this Saturday, a player who Baro speaks highly of as an asset both on and off the pitch.

“I get along really well with Asdrubal, he is a great guy,” Baro said. “I am really happy to try and help him settle in. During the sessions football is football whether it’s here or in Spain, it’s a universal language.

“He has brought some really good things to the team. During the training sessions and friendly games, we have seen the positive impact he has had on our front third so we are really happy to have him here on the Central Coast,” Baro said.
