Alou Kuol voted as PFA Player of the Month

Alou Kuol voted as PFA Player of the Month

Mariners forward Alou Kuol has been voted PFA Player of the Month for the A-League for the first month of the 20/21 season.

Originally named in a shortlist alongside Brisbane’s Dylan Wenzel-Halls, Newcastle’s Valentino Yuel and Macarthur goalkeeper Adam Federici, Kuol was voted as the winner by his peers as he sits equal top of the A-League goalscoring charts.

Speaking on reception of the award, Kuol was taken aback and proud of the achievement.

“I’m very honoured to receive this award as Player of the Month,” he said.

“To be recognised by all the players across the A-League, I’m very happy. Pretty shocked at the same time, but the hard work continues.”

Kuol has relished working alongside experienced fellow forwards Matt Simon and Marco Urena, and said their knowledge and assistance has been vital to his development.

“Marco and Simmo have so much experience, it’s great,” he said.

“They give me someone to lean on and I always look up to them. They are players who I can adapt my game to as well, very similar and it is very good to have them as role models and players I can play alongside.”

Named in the squad to travel to Adelaide for A-League Match Week 9, the 19-year old said the fast start to the season has the team in a good place at the moment.

“It’s been an excellent start to the season so far, the boys are all very happy, the energy is good, and everybody is sticking together and we’re all working hard for each other,” he said on Thursday.

The Mariners will take on Adelaide United at 7pm on Friday at Coopers Stadium.
