TWO Central Coast Mariners Academy teams were victorious on the weekend in the 2012 Boys Super Youth League Grand Finals.

Both the Grade 14 and Grade 15 Boys Academy teams met and conquered their Sydney University counterparts in a day of tense finals action at Sydney United Sports Centre.

Sydney University were represented in all grades for the Grand Finals and took out the first game over their rivals Dulwich Hill. However, the Central Coast Mariners Academy teams were determined to ensure that it wasn-t going to be Sydney Uni’s day.

The Grade 14 Boys came tearing out of the blocks and continued their goalfest from the qualifying final to secure a 2012 Grand Final victory with an impressive 5-1 scoreline in a game that was dominated by Glenn Hall-s Academy boys.

Inspired by the Grade 14 Boys convincing win, the Grade 15 Boys, also playing Sydney University, were able to put away an early goal and keep the Academy-s hopes of a second grand final victory alive. Sydney University then equalised with a goal but it was the Academy boys who prevailed and secured the second Grand Final Win for the Coast teams.

The Grade Final win for the 15s was coupled with their winning of the minor premiership, with Coach Will Piriz delighted with the teams- performance throughout the year and on grand final day.

It was then time for the Grade 16 Boys Academy Team, who were also 2012 Minor Premiers, to give it their all in their final game of the Season. With scores locked at nil all at full time, the teams went in to extra time to decide the 2012 Grand Final winner. After extra time, there was still no result so the teams lined up for a penalty shoot-out. Unfortunately for the Academy Boys, Sydney University were too strong in the penalty shootout winning 4-2.

Sydney University went on to win the last game of the day with a 1-0 win over the Northern Tigers securing three grand finals wins for Sydney University (13s, 16s and 18s) and two for the Central Coast Mariners Academy (14s and 15s).

Overall it was great day and a great Season for the Central Coast Mariners Academy with teams now looking forward to a well-deserved break before resuming trials and training for Season 2013.
