ACADEMY WRAP: Mariners draw 3-3 with Tigers

A Liam Rose screamer headlined the Academy’s 3-3 draw with Northern Tigers on Sunday afternoon along with goals to Shelford Dais & Jordan Lane to round out the PS4 NPL 2 season.

The Mariners Academy took the lead in the 6th minute when a through ball from Rose found the feet of Shelford Dais. Dais finished in style sending the ball through the keeper’s legs to send the Academy ahead after a fast paced start.

Northern Tigers regained parity in the 20th minute when Mitchell Smith leapt high and headed the ball into the back of the net.

Five minutes Later the Tigers thought they had the lead before Adam Pearce made an impressive full stretch save to keep the scores level.

Trent Buhagiar made himself known two minutes later when the speedster found himself on the end of a through ball from Lane. Buhagiar fired his shot into the side netting, just wide of the upright.

Northern Tigers took the lead in the 53rd minute of play when striker Liam Mcconaghy finished calmly from close range.

Steve Whyte came close four minutes later when he found himself with some room inside the edge of the area. Whyte couldn’t quite find the target, sending his powerful shot across the face of goal.

The Mariners levelled the scores in the 60th minute when Jordan Lane finished smartly after some great build up play from Dais.

The Mariners then took the lead two minutes later thanks to a solo strike from Liam Rose. Rose fired a half volley from the edge of the 18-yard-box that fizzed into the top corner.

It could’ve been 4-2 in the 73rd minute when Buhagiar’s pace caught the Tigers keeper out. Buhagiar went around the keeper but couldn’t find the target from an tough angle.

Instead, the Tigers levelled proceedings in th 76th minute when Liam Mcconaghy scored his second for the day beating a helpless Adam Pearce.

Despite a frantic final 10 minutes, neither side could break the deadlock, seeing the game finish in an entertaining 3-3 draw.
