The Central Coast Mariners play their Hyundai A-League home matches at Bluetongue Stadium, one of Australia’s most picturesque sporting arenas.
With a total capacity of 20,059, Bluetongue Stadium has played host to many major events, including International Rugby Union, NRL, boxing, motorcross and open-air rock concerts as well as a multitude of local sporting and community events.
The Mariners played their inaugural fixture at Bluetongue Stadium on Saturday, 7 May 2005, when they hosted northern rivals the Newcastle Jets in the opening round of the Club World Championships qualifying series.
9,809 spectators were on hand that day, and by the close of the Mariners’ second Hyundai A-League campaign in February 2007, the turnstiles at Bluetongue Stadium had clicked over 200,000 times for Mariners matches.
Prior to the arrival of the Mariners, football’s debut appearance on the Central Coast was in April 2000, when the Northern Spirit strayed from their North Sydney home to host the Canberra Cosmos.
In front of an enthusiastic 10,214 spectators, the visiting Cosmos ran out 2-1 victors, with inaugural Mariners squad member and Central Coast born and raised defender Andrew Clark scoring both of their goals.
