10. Adrian Caceres
The off-season arrival of former Melbourne Victory ace Caceres was perhaps the Mariners’ most significant recruitment coup ahead of their fourth Hyundai A-League campaign. The highly regarded attacking linchpin left his former club in electric form after two stunning seasons at the Telstra Dome, highlighted by his 22 appearances throughout the course of the Victory’s Premiership and Championship winning second season. Before making history with Melbourne, Caceres enjoyed a cosmopolitan career in England, which started alongside iconic English legend Matt Le Tissier at Southampton and would later include stints at Brentford, Hull City, Yeovil, Aldershot and Wycombe Wanderers. In addition to a crop of goals netted while abroad, Caceres has scored some of the Hyundai A-League’s most eye-catching goals since first linking with the Perth Glory for the inaugural season. Blessed with pace, strength and a rare ability to bewilder defenders in his path, the Buenos Aires born flyer will be again at the centre of the Mariners’ creative pulse in 2009/10.
