7. John Hutchinson
John Hutchinson

Bluetongue Stadium favourite and Mariners ever-present Hutchinson has enjoyed a rollercoaster ride since joining the yellow and navy for their inaugural campaign. Season one was perhaps Hutchinson’s most eye catching contribution – six goals in eight matches before a serious knee injury halted his amazing progress in Round 18. In 2006/07, Hutchinson netted the Mariners’ first goal of the new season, but struggled through an injury affected campaign that failed to match the lofty heights of one year previous. However, Hutchinson was nothing short of superb for the Mariners throughout their maiden Premiership winning season. Unquestionably one of the genuine forces behind the Mariners’ greatest success to date, Hutchinson was rewarded with a call up to the Qantas Socceroos’ training squad ahead of their FIFA World Cup qualifier against Qatar in February 2008, but his international career took a wildly different path at the conclusion of the Mariners inaugural ACL campaign, when he was called into the Malta side, debuting in a friendly against the Czech Republic.
