2. Andre Gumprecht
One of the better foreign players to have ever competed in Australia’s top flight football competitions, Gumprecht’s star has continued to rise throughout his time at the Mariners. Gumprecht was one of the first players added to the Mariners’ inaugural playing roster and didn’t disappoint over the course of an outstanding debut campaign in the Hyundai A-League that was highlighted by three domestic final appearances in yellow and navy. Season two saw Gumprecht sidelined for the most part through injury, before returning in 2007/08 where he contributed 17 appearances to the Mariners’ maiden Premiership success. Gumprecht is surely among the more cultured talents in the Hyundai A-League, having played extensively throughout his German homeland, in Italy with US Lecce and in Singapore with powerhouse local club Singapore Armed Forces. Gumprecht enjoys a rock star like following at Bluetongue Stadium, where he has become a crowd favourite since the inception of the Hyundai A-League due to his unmistakable look and presence at the Mariners’ picturesque bayside home.
